Two Ways to Use HiNC

HiNC comes in two forms, and they take a new version differently.

The HiNC application is ready to use, with nothing to develop: a setup program installs it on Windows, in a package licensed by a dongle or in one licensed by a cloud account; it is operated in a web browser, and a new version is installed from the application's own menu bar (Updating on Windows); a HiNC web service run on a server is updated by whoever runs it.

The HiAPI packages are C# libraries for developers who build HiNC into their own software (HiAPI Packages and Sample Code), and such software gets a new version only by being rebuilt against the new packages. Moving it from 3.1.175 to 3.2 also needs the code changes on Upgrading from 3.1.175 to 3.2; within the 3.2 line, each entry of the Release Note says what that version asks of the code, scripts in a HiNC project included.

Both run the same engine: the version the application shows in its menu bar is the version of the HiNc package it is built on.

Getting Started

  • Installing on Windows — Install HiNC, licensed by a dongle or by a cloud account, start it, turn sign-in on when other computers will reach it, reach it over HTTPS or through your own proxy, and find its data folder and settings file
  • Cloud Account Sign-In — The cloud package: create an account, enter the activation code, sign in and out, and what HiNC does while it runs
  • Updating on Windows — The update badge and dialog, recalled versions, update servers and classroom mirrors
  • License Update — The dongle package: one-click installer, or update the dongle from a browser
  • Multi-Station Setup — Run multiple HiNC stations on one machine
  • Delegated Authorization — The dongle package: delegate authorization via a sentinel host
  • Walkthrough: Build a Project from Scratch — The first project, built from the Resource HiNC installs and a program on the page, then played and read in the walkthrough after it, one click at a time
